Re: “Here and Now” & “UpClose”
Dear Mr. Davis:
The Federal Communications Commission allows children’s programming to be aired on weekends from 10:00 a.m. to noontime. This past Sunday, children’s programming was aired at noontime instead of “Here and Now” which is actually arts and entertainment. Under “Like It Is,” it was public affairs programming.
This “bait-and-switch” scam is akin to white racists in the South referring to black adults as “boys” and “girls.” Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. cited this indignity for justifying the dismantling of Jim Crow. Medgar Evers sacrificed his life to enjoin racism in the media. Gil Noble sought to sustain this struggle.
Dr. Calvin Butts was a guest on “UpClose” instead of “Here and Now” to discuss issues which are particularly important to the black community; namely, the de Blasio administration and the closing of Pathmark on 125th Street in East Harlem. This is an act of genocide with the blessings of New York City and Mayor William de Blasio.
Even though I have known Dr. Butts longer than I have known Rev. Al Sharpton, Dr. Butts appeared on “UpClose to air a personal beef. Mayor William de Blasio promoted Rev. Sharpton to the top of the class without any semblance of any academic credentials. Dr. Butts had to remain in his seat. This would infuriate most “bourgeoisie Negroes.”
During the de Blasio, mayoral campaign, Dr. Butts gave William de Blasio an unqualified endorsement. He failed to engineer a life raft for his congregation or for the black community. Dr. Butts is obviously unaware that the oldest will in the world was found in Kemet. He has an obligation to preserve the legacy of Rev. Adam Clayton Powell, Jr.
Only one person sought to protect the political integrity of the black community. He was able to influence his supporters to finance an advertisement in the New York Amsterdam News highlighting the doctrine of caveat emptor. This person is openly subject to censorship in the media.
